Personal Projects | Katy Houston Texas Photographer

I recently went through my attempts at a 365 Project, all of which I failed to complete. Although I did not finish them, the images that I have from them are priceless. Looking back at those images taken years ago opened my eyes to the fact that I need to be challenging myself more. I have found that when I am busy with client sessions, I am not taking pictures of my own kids, which is what sparked my love of photography in the first place.  Now that I am on maternity leave, I have a lot more time for personal projects. That means you should begin seeing more posts from me on the blog. Right now I’ve challenged myself to a photo-a-day project for the month of August. I might not post all the images here, but I will take a photo every day this month, and not with my iPhone.:)

Personal projects are important for different reasons. They push me to places creatively that I would not normally go.  There are many different kinds of personal projects out there that you can try, or you can get even more creative and make up your own.  You don’t even have to use a fancy camera. I started a 365 Instagram project and have been successful at it thus far. I am toying with the idea of starting another 365 Project when the baby is born to document the first year of her life.  I am guessing my success will depend on the transition from 2 to 3 kids. The great part is that even if I fail the completion aspect, I am still happy to get the priceless images from attempting the project at all.
